This is a special invitation for PhD students working in experimental mechanics, but not only.
The Spring School on NEW TRENDS in EXPERIMENTAL MECHANICS (NTEM 1) will be held at Hotel Górski PTTK Kalatówki – Zakopane, Poland: May 13 – 17, 2024.
The NTEM 1 is organized by the European Society for Experimental Mechanics EuraSEM and the Institute of Fundamental Technological Research IPPT PAN.
You can find more information about the Spring School NTEM 1 on the following webpage: http://ntem1.ippt.pan.pl/
The event in Poland is entirely supported by the EuraSEM: the registration fee, accommodation, 3 meals daily, and a social program will be covered.
The participants will arrive at Krakow-Balice Airport on their own travel costs. So only the purchase of the flight or train to Kraków Balice Airport, according to the schedule (13-17 May 2024) is necessary.
For registration, PhD students are kindly requested to send the filled Registration Form. A 1-page summary of the research should also be sent to Dr Maria Staszczak at mstasz@ippt.pan.pl by April 12, 2024. Notification of the acceptance will be sent before April 15, 2024. Each PhD student will have a 10-minute talk.
The NTEM 1 Spring School is planned for 29 participants, including 4 invited lecturers. The total number of PhD Students is 21; 2 or 3 per country. Participants from Poland, Romania, Italy, UK, Greece, Slovakia, Portugal are already confirmed. We would greatly appreciate it if PhD students from France could also join us for the event.
The short presentations of Young Researchers, 21 x 10’ each, will be delivered within two sessions, giving the young participants an excellent chance to present their current achievements in Ph.D. theses. The NTEM 1 will provide a platform for in-depth discussions and knowledge sharing among all participants.
According to the research program, 4 Invited professors lecturing for 3 x 45’ each are confirmed. The titles of the lectures are given on the NTEM 1 website.
1. Prof. Błażej Skoczeń, Cracow University of Technology, Kraków, Poland ; a Member of PAN and Academy of Krakow.
2. Prof. Małgorzata Kujawińska, Faculty of Mechatronics, Institute of Micromechanics and Photonics, Warsaw University of Technology, Warsaw, Poland
3. Prof. Stavros Kourkoulis, Department of Mechanics, National Technical University of Athens, Greece
4. Prof. Jerzy Małachowski, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Military University of Technology, Warsaw, Poland (Acting Director of the National Centre for Research and Development NCBR, the largest platform for R&D projects in Poland)
Four lectures delivered by the IPPT PAN Professors are also planned.
1. Prof. Zbigniew Kowalewski (45’) On the non-standard experimental methods for mechanical characterization of conventional and printed materials
2. Prof. Elżbieta Pieczyska (45’) Additive Manufacturing as a new opportunity for lightweight Shape Memory Polymer in industrial applications such as robotics or medical surgery
3. Prof. Katarzyna Kowalczyk-Gajewska (60’) Multiscale modelling of thermomechanical properties of advanced materials
4. Prof. Dariusz Jarząbek (45’) Additive manufacturing of metal matrix – particle reinforced composites
In addition, Dr Karol Golasiński, UKSW, Warsaw and University of Tsukuba (the former PhD student of E. Pieczyska, experienced by the JSPS PostDoc and Sonatina Project in Japan), will deliver a lecture (60’) Biomedical shape memory alloys versus experimental mechanics and additive manufacturing.
A banquet with a Highlander folk orchestra in regional clothes and regional cuisine will be organized. A Highlander Swiss-oriented style architecture tour to Zakopane and the Museum of Tatra Nature with an English-speaking guide is planned.
The transfer by 1 bus from/to Balice Kraków Airport – Zakopane will be organized.
Free short transfer of luggage (and older persons) by special jeeps from Rondo Murowanica (Zakopane) to Kalatówki and from Kalatówki to Zakopane will be served by Kalatówki Hotel.
If you need more information or have other questions, just contact Prof. Elżbieta Pieczyska (e-mail: epiecz@ippt.pan.pl) or Dr. Maria Staszczak (mstasz@ippt.pan.pl) directly.
